Every year, March 8th marks a special occasion — International Women’s Day — a day of empowerment, celebration, and reflection. It’s a day to recognize the incredible achievements of women around the world, celebrate the progress we’ve made, and acknowledge the work still ahead. The theme for 2025 is 'Accelerate Action'
Why I Celebrate International Women’s Day
For me, International Women’s Day is more than just a day on the calendar. After I graduated from university I was sponsored by the Department for International Development to go to Honduras. I spent three months working with a women’s co-operative in Marcala. Whilst living there I saw first-hand the inequality and challenges women faced and I realised the importance of community.

Community plays a crucial role in empowering women by providing support, resources, and opportunities for growth. In Honduras, women face unique challenges. Honduras has the highest level of violence against women (femicide), in Latin America. Other issues include the need to increase the meaningful participation of women and youth in political and economic activities. Being part of a co-operative helped women gain financial independence and the ability to push for policy change. Celebrating International Women’s Day provided emotional and personal support - It ensured that no one felt alone with their struggles.

This year I am attending Solo Craft Fair at St Martins in the Field
I’m incredibly fortunate to be part of Solo Craft Fair on Sunday 9th March. This event celebrates female entrepreneurship, creativity, and empowerment.

Jewellery: A Personal Story of Empowerment
For me, jewellery isn’t just an accessory — it’s a way to express individuality tell a story, and even empower others. Each piece I create is part of a larger narrative, one that celebrates both art and resilience. I love creating jewellery that makes people feel like they’re wearing something truly unique.

Every time I see someone wearing a piece I’ve crafted, it’s a beautiful reminder that jewellery can hold so much meaning. It’s a way to express identity, celebrate milestones, or simply add a little joy to everyday life.

International Women’s Day may come once a year, but the message of celebrating women and supporting each other is something we should carry with us every day. I’m proud to be surrounded by inspiring individuals who make a difference in their own way.
How do you celebrate International Women’s Day? Are you part of any empowering communities?
